Lets get this discussion started about 2A FB heading into week 10 and the playoffs!
2A AIA Rankings:
Rankings in this prep notes are the AIA not ours:
The rankings that came out yesterday surprised many including myself to be honest.
Lets take a look at who is IN the playoffs based on the automatic qualifier per region:
This means these teams regardless of AIA Ranking or record are guaranteed a spot
in the playoffs:
San Juan: Chinle
AGUA FRIA: Heritage Academy-Laveen
HASSAYAMPA: Tonopah Valley
LITTLE COLORADO: Holbrook
GILA: Gilbert Christian
2A Region Titles on the Line This Week:
Salt: Morenci vs Pima
San Pedro: Willcox @ Tanque Verde
Verde: SCA @ SPA
Please Note:
San Juan: Chinle
Chinle is ranked #29 in the AII Rankings and has no chance of
getting into the top 16 BUT because they won the region they will
have to bump the team who ends up at #16 seed pushing them
out of the playoffs. This means that Chinle will be the #16 seed and
face the #1 seed which will be the winner between the Morenci vs Pima
winner this Friday.
Do or Die Games this week for teams who need a win for the playoffs:
#15 Tanque Verde:
They play #7 Willcox and they need to win this game
to get into the playoffs! This would give them the automatic qualifier and make
the playoffs regardless of their rankings. If they win they should move up a
few more spots. If they lose I do not see them making the playoffs BUT it could
happen. If they drop to #16 they will be bumped out for Chinle. Last year Tanque Verde
lost out on the 2A playoffs by being bumped out by a lower automatic qualifier as well.
16-20 seeds:
Any of these teams must win to have a chance at the 15th seed!
VL-Madison Highland-Trivium Prep-Sequoia Pathways-CPA
Out of these teams Valley Lutheran, Trivium Prep should win while
the rest of the games could go either way.
#22 Cortez:
This team of course has had a great season. IF they could beat #8 Camp Verde
and if other games go their way we could see them jumping up big time and maybe
getting into the #15 spot all because they would be a 6-3 record in ranked games
and because CV is so high it could launch them. However, if CV was to lose this would
really hurt the teams that they have beaten/played as well. Personally it is a long-shot
for Cortez to win but hey as they say “Any Given Friday”!
These teams who need a win for the playoffs but may still get in if they lose:
Veritas-Miami-St Johns: St Johns will win their game but Miami and Veritas
have a much harder matchup and could lose.
Gilbert Christian will be a lower seed. “DIRK” has them as a top 5 team and that is a legit
ranking so whoever gets GC as a higher seed in the 1st round is gonna be in for a HUGE fight
to move on to round 2 as GC is peaking just right and is hitting on all cylinders.
